What the JLPT N5 tests
The N5 tests language knowledge (vocabulary and grammar), reading and listening. They are scored as two parts: language knowledge and reading together, and listening. Language knowledge and reading are two sittings, 60 minutes in all, then comes listening. Out of 180, you pass with a total of at least 80 and every part at or above its minimum:
| Part | Score | Minimum |
|---|---|---|
| Language knowledge & reading | 0–120 | 38 |
| Listening | 0–60 | 19 |

After you submit
- An estimated score for each part, listening included, against its minimum and the pass mark — and whether that would pass.
- Accuracy by item type, and where your time went.
- An explanation for every question, or just the ones you missed.
Scores are estimated from the share of questions right; the real test is equated, so your actual score will differ. Leaving the page for over a minute pauses the clock and marks the attempt informal.
