What the JLPT N5 tests

The N5 tests language knowledge (vocabulary and grammar), reading and listening. They are scored as two parts: language knowledge and reading together, and listening. Language knowledge and reading are two sittings, 60 minutes in all, then comes listening. Out of 180, you pass with a total of at least 80 and every part at or above its minimum:

PartScoreMinimum
Language knowledge & reading0–12038

Questions

Is it free?
Yes — no ads and no sign-up.
How close is it to the real JLPT?
Item types, layout and difficulty follow the real N5; grammar and reading carry furigana, as on the test. All questions are original, not past papers.
Is there listening?
Yes. Play the recording (as often as you like), answer, then read the transcript with furigana and a translation, and replay any line on its own.
